Wow, we can’t believe we are starting the 2nd quarter for the 2016 – 2017 academic school year.  We have enjoyed having your students in our classes this quarter.  Your students have been working hard in science reading, writing, and participating in laboratory activities.  If you have not had a chance to donate a science fee this year, it is not too late.  All donations and fees are greatly appreciated.

Classroom Expectations

We would like to ask all parents to be sure to check your child’s agenda and PowerSchool regularly.  Please remember that the agenda needs to be signed for acknowledgment of your child’s academic progress on 10/17/16 and 12/16/16.  By signing, you are acknowledging that you are aware of your child’s grade in PowerSchool.  If you need a copy of the Power School code, please check with the office.  Parents who do not have internet, please send a note to your homeroom teacher to print out copies of progress reports.

Communication

We are asking that all parents send in an email address or current phone number where you can be reached for verification in our records.  Please remember to sign up on Remind and check the Hixson Middle School website for class information.

Grades are always available on-line in PowerSchool, and teachers will use a variety of sources to communicate with you. (Remind.com, Classdojo.com, Hixson Middle School Website, and agendas)

WELCOME

Dear Parents,

We are excited to be your child’s science teachers this year.  It will be a year of learning through notes, labs, and activities.  However, we need your help. This year we are asking for a $10 science fee in order to buy perishable and nonperishable laboratory materials.  We greatly appreciate your donations.

CLASSROOM EXPECTIONS

We expect every child to come to class prepared to learn by having pencils, paper, and academic materials that are required for learning.  Students are expected to be in their assigned seats at the time class begins when the door closes or waiting in the appropriate place for the teacher’s instructions.   Students who walk in right as the bell rings will be considered tardy.  Students are expected to treat classmates and teachers with respect and respect learning time by not interrupting class with poor behavior.  Students are expected to work in a variety of group settings such as pairs, small groups, and whole group with a multitude of different students.  Students are not allowed to have food or drinks in class other than water without prior approval by the teacher.

Regular attendance and engagement are required in order to demonstrate mastery of material and to receive credit for work completed. Students who have an excused absents will be allowed 5 days to complete missing assignments for full credit.  Students with unexcused absents will have 5 days to make up the missing assignments.  It is the student’s responsibility to get make up work after class or through email.  Make up work will be placed in a designated of the classroom.  Make-up work will not be discussed during instructional time. Students may make up or retake any quiz or test during related arts; however, a 10% grade reduction will be taken after 5 days if the test is not completed.  It is the student’s responsibility to set up a time to take/retake the test.
