Notice and Note Signposts and Reading Log

Parents and Students! As we are drawing to close of the first progress report period, please take some time to review and talk about the signposts we have been learning in class that will help our community of readers become more critical thinkers and writers as well. The Notice and Note reading log is not a typical log where you simply write down the pages and reading for the day. It is a place to document your thinking and express this thinking in a focused way. A copy of this document is saved in the Forms sections of my website. Please take time to look at it and use it.

At least one line needs to be filled in completely under at least 5 of the 6 signposts. Good luck!

Students! Please remember to bring your personal reading book with you each day to class.  Now that we are moving into more formal lessons, there will be consistent reading times.

Every Friday will also be Reading Stamina Day. Students MUST have an independent reading book. This begins 08/19.

Welcome Back To School!

Welcome to the 7th grade and to being a Panther! This is going to be an exciting year of learning and growing. I wanted to take the opportunity to welcome you to my Reading and Language Arts class. This will be a school year filled with opportunities to explore reading more deeply, question why authors do the crazy things they do, expand your writing knowledge, and grow your thinking from something simple to new heights. This may sound a little quirky, but I challenge all children in my class to come with an open-mind about reading and writing. I also challenge them to put forth the effort to learn and not give up because it is hard or you don't get it. I challenge my students to make mistakes and know that it is o.k. to have them. (If we all got the "right" answer, then what do we learn? How do we grow?) Additionally, I want to challenge my students to work and think harder than they have in the past, to outgrow themselves as readers and writers.

I wish all of my students and parents the best of luck in all classes this year and look forward to the opportunities to work alongside you. It is like the old saying goes, "You get out what you put in."
